      The application of the Image Processing to Autonomous Drive has drawn a significant attention in the literature and research. However the demanding nature of the image processing algorithms conveys a considerable burden to any conventional real-time implementation. Meanwhile the emergence of FPGAs has brought numerous facilities toward fast prototyping and implementation of ASICs so that an image processing algorithm can be designed, tested and synthesized in a relatively short period of time in comparison to traditional approaches. This thesis investigates the best combination of required algorithms to reach an optimum solution to the problem of lane detection and tracking while is aiming to fit the design to a minimal system. The proposed structure realizes three algorithms namely Steerable Filter, Hough Transform and Kalman Filter. For each module the theoretical background is investigated and a detailed description of the realization is given followed by an analysis of both achievements and shortages of the design

        As designers and researchers strive to achieve higher performance, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) become an increasingly attractive solution. As coprocessors, FPGAs can provide application specific acceleration that cannot be matched by modern processors. Most of these applications will make use of large data sets, so achieving acceleration will require a capable interface to this data. The research in this thesis describes the design of a memory controller that is both efficient and flexible for FPGA applications requiring floating point operations. In particular, the benefits of certain design choices are explored, including: scalability, memory caching, and configurable precision. Results are given to prove the controller’s effectiveness and to compare various design trade-offs

          The main goal of this thesis consists in studying the feasibility to implement a full-functionality CNN camera sensor based on low-cost FPGA device suitable for mobile robotic applications. The study of Cellular Nonlinear Networks (CNNs) fundamentals and its efficient implementation on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) has been complemented, on one side with the parallelism established between multi-core CNN architecture and swarm of mobile robots, and on the other side with the dynamics correlation of CNNs and memristive architectures. We have explored how the CNN architectures implemented on FPGAs can be optimized in terms of area occupied on the device or power consumption. Our final accomplishment has been implementing efficiently a fully functional reconfigurable CNN-UM on a low-cost low-power FPGA based on flash technology

The three main categories of FPDs are delineated: Simple PLDs (SPLDs), Complex PLDs (CPLDs) and Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). We then give details of the architectures of all of the most important commercially available chips and give examples of applications of each type of device

                          Recent research has shown that FPGAs can execute certain applications significantly faster than state-of-the-art processors. The penalty is the loss of generality, but the reconfigurability of FPGAs allows them to be reprogrammed for other applications. Therefore, an efficient programming model and a flexible design flow are paramount for FPGA technology to be more widely accepted. In this thesis, a lightweight subset implementation of the MPI standard, called TMD-MPI, is presented. TMD-MPI provides a programming model capable of using multiple-FPGAs and embedded processors while hiding hardware complexities from the programmer, facilitating the development of parallel code and promoting code portability. A message-passing engine (TMD-MPE) is also developed to encapsulate the TMD-MPI functionality in hardware. TMD-MPE enables the communication between hardware engines and embedded processors. In addition, a Network-on-Chip is designed to enable intra-FPGA and inter-FPGA communications. Together, TMD-MPI, TMD-MPE and the network provide a flexible design flow for Multiprocessor System-on-Chip design

                              As the complexity of Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) circuits dramatically increases by improvements of technology, there is a huge interests to shift different applications from analog to digital domain. While there are many platform available for this shift, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) hold an attractive position because of their performance, power consumption and configurability. Comparing with Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP), FPGA stands in the middle. It is easier to implement a function on FPGA than ASIC which is to perform a fixed operation. Although, DSP can implement versatile functions, its computational power is not high enough to support the high data rate of FPGA. This report is the outcome and result of a master thesis at University of Linköping, Sweden. This report tries to cover both theoretical and hardware aspects of implementation of a Farrow structure for sample rate conversion on FPGA. The intention of this work was to contribute to what is nowadays the main focus of communication engineers: designing flexible radio systems. Flexible radio systems are interactive and dynamic by definition. That is why a low-cost, flexible multimode terminal is crucially important to support different telecommunication standards and scenarios. In this thesis, FPGA implementation of complete Farrow system is presented. Matlab/********, and VHDL are used in this thesis work as the prime software.

                                Modern devices provide a multitude of services that use radio frequencies in continual smaller packages. This size leads to an antenna used to transmit and receive information being usually very inefficient and a lot of power is wasted just to be able to transmit a signal. To mitigate this problem a new antenna was introduced by Dr. Manteghi that is capable of working efficiently across a large band. The antenna achieves this large band by doing quick frequency hopping across multiple channels. In order to test the performance of this antenna against more common antennas, a software radio was needed, such that tested antennas can be analyzed using multiple modulations. This paper presents a software defined radio system that was designed for the purpose of testing the bit-error rate of digital modulations schemes using described and other antennas. The designed system consists of a DSP, an FPGA, and commercially available modules. The combination allows the system to be flexible with high performance, while being affordable. Commercial modules are available for multiple frequency bands and capable of fast frequency switching required to test the antenna. The DSP board contains additional peripherals that allows for more complex projects in the future. The block structure of the system is also very educational as each stage of transmission and reception can be tested and observed. The full system has been constructed and tested using simulated and real signals. A code was developed for communication between commercial modules and the DSP, bit error rate testing, data transmission, signal generation, and signal reception. A graphical user interface (GUI) was developed to help user with information display and system control. This thesis describes the software-defined-radio design in detail and shows test results at the end
